Ballad of Anywhere P24: Rambunctious Recap

Time for a recap, even though our dramatic personae can hardly contain their energy. Things need to happen, in order to preserve our reality!

It makes THE BEHOLDER content to not only see TWO Shifters, but also the Officer of the Bureau of Singularity again. Your Cosmic Observer has some good memories of past stories with the Bureau.

The two earthlings, Jimmy Wherever and Kelly (formerly the Invincible Woman) have shown their usefulness in the past, too. The robots however, seem not the most competent.

It’s always the same: the moment you don’t watch – or BEHOLD, – something exciting happens.

Superheroes of the BEHOLDERVERSE

We pause our usual updates (again?!) to share with you a little introduction, an “intro chart” of our many friends that can be found at the Fortress of Evening! (A glorious penthouse headquarters in Midtown, in the Big Apple!) We have two main groups, Captain Evening and the Odds, and Section P, the latter originally from the UK and a brainchild of my colleague James Damaged.

Furthermore, there are many other guests that visit more or less regularly, unaffiliated or from other groups (below with green caption boxes), we present you here a completely random representation of three of the brave and beloved fellow fighters for good.

They frequently come from other corners of the Multiverse, and even other creators – Mixtli is by tulio19mx, Queen Betty by Jay Epps, Valor Girl by Johann-Octavius Gans. We must also not forget to point out that Ionic Angel and Burst Lion are from the creator of the same name.

Ballad of Anywhere P22: Litmus Test

Kelly’s distrust is not unfounded– the older amongst you may remember the shocking developments in Tales To Behold Book 4! Jenny Everywhere had been a founding member of The Odds, but secretly she was also building a villains team with Dr Brain!

Had she always been the evil Jenny Nowhere in disguise?! Did the good Jenny change and “mutate” into a different personality? The drama of it all was– we never found out! Suddenly, she got devoured by an extra-dimensional monster. The remaining Odds were in shock, for a while…

Thankfully, this time around, Rodney has apparently a fool-proof method to confirm wether this Jenny is a good one or a bad one.

 

Ballad of Anywhere P21: Intermission

There has been a glitch in the space time continuum, which causes our story to have a missing page. To avoid re-numbering all the remaining pages, we’re bringing you this charming intermission image with our two favorite Shifters!

Ballad of Anywhere P20: Completing the Circle

The circle is complete! We’re FINALLY picking up the thread from our legendary “Adventures of the Human Tree” storyline. Here, our friend, The Human Tree, had become a real tree without signs of human cognition anymore. Mysto the Space Wizard went in a deep trance to enter the spirit world, to look for Human Tree’s soul.

Also part of the endeavor: Rodney Rabbit, genius scientist Prof Madison, and former superheroine Kelly, of the Terrific Two (see Journey Into Misery comics for more about her).

Kelly reacts harshly when Jenny Everywhere shows up, because of happenings in Tales To Behold 4, where the Jenny Everywhere of that story, turned out not who we thought she is…

Looks like Ms. Anywhere has had enough of these shenanigans and is giving the Singularity official a piece of her mind! As the explanations of the agent are getting ever more complicated, Jenny Everywhere has a plan! And disappears.

Whenever our reality goes whack, or different timelines need to be disentangled, they are on the job!

Rapidly, rabid reporter Jimmy Wherever drops in and manages, not fully intentionally, to shorten out the stasis field which holds the two Jennys. But there are still the other “peg heads” to deal with! Jenny Everywhere is happy to jump in on the action, until – ?

 

Cozy Reading Nook

On a rainy day, Jesse Brain found a nice cozy nook at the Fortress of Evening, with a hot brew and a good book. (Click to enlarge)

Jesse is the daughter of arch villain Dr Brain, and formerly part of his gang as the Wicked Witch. At some point, she renounced her villainous ways and identity, partially because she was usurped by her best frenemy Alicia.

She hooked up with her daddy’s biggest enemy, the heroic Captain Evening and henceforth has been living with the heroes at their headquarters. She has not joined the Captain’s team as a heroine (yet), and is mostly just drifting in limbo, trying to figure out her future. And enjoying the good life.

Ballad of Anywhere P15: Rushing to the Rescue

Our new friend Jimmy Wherever heard some disturbing cries and noises when he called Jenny Everywhere, so now he’s rushing over to see what’s what! In true heroic fashion, he runs and jumps across the rooftops…
Climbing down the fire escape, he sees Jenny and our other new friend trapped by some… strange, otherworldly characters! And who are they calling ??

The madness continues in our second chapter, more mad than ever! Some serious real estate issues in the city (as if rents weren’t already expensive enough), and the return of our star reporter, Amanda Allen! Also, that dog guy from the Prologue.

And there we have it! A meeting of two Shifters, apparently! For Ms Anywhere, it is a stroke of luck that they were both shifting at the same time! Hopefully, she’ll get some answers from her more experienced counterpart.

Both Jennys have a lot of questions about their current situation. The identity questions of J. Everywhere might have to wait, for the moment…

Unfortunately, her cries for help are not heeded by anyone… In fact, she’s cut off by yet another of the strange visitors! Yet thankfully, at the last second, she disappears yet again in a shift of energy!

 

Ballad Anywhere P09: Word of Warning

 

Obviously, Jenny’s cat is not in the habit of answering her in human speak. So the danger must be extraordinary! Or, this is just one of those strange occurrences, like in the Prologue of our story.

In any case, some absurd characters are suddenly in Anywhere’s kitchen, giving her pussy-cat the second scare of the day! And not just him!

Ballad of Anywhere P08: Thoughts of Rebooting

Even after a generous dose of morning hanky-panky, our Shifter is still lacking memories associated with this timeline.

Like with computers, she figures a restart should be the first thing to try!

After their first adventure together (sans Captain Evening), The Odds invited new superhero Jetstar to visit their Fortress Evening to meet their fearless leader, and the rest of the gang!
