We’re laying a trap for the burglars, and we’re laying in waiting, so there’s occasional for some hanky panky. Lady Venus, mother of jungle hero Kaza, is enjoying the fact that she’s the only lady in the Captain’s tent for the duration of the vacation.

Captain Evening and his friends have set up camp, so to say, at the Mighty Bares clothing-optional site, and are enjoying their first night under the stars.

It is summer in New York, and it is very hot. So it is time to get rid of all clothes and visit The Mighty Bares Naturist Camp! Please enjoy this little romp before we get back to our Anywhere storyline!

Mr Mighty, former superheroic mentor to Captain Evening, is the proprietor of the site. This time, it’s Captain Evening, Lady Venus, Burst Lion and Merv the Griffin who made the trip. Just like in real life, they are going through a heatwave. Thankfully, there is a pool…

As Merv the Griffin continues (together with Jesse Brain) to reminisce about his arrival on our plane of existence, we’re reminded how Jenny Everywhere saved the day in her very own, multiversal way. The rest is history!

We’re recounting what led to this very fateful encounter– for the first time! Again!

Merv the Griffin, summoned by Dr Brain, is on a mission to destroy Captain Evening, but he doesn’t know what a “Captain Evening” is! Fate had it, he smashed into the home of the very person he’s looking for. The Captain is too honest not to admit that he’s his target.

At that time, the intrepid Jenny Everywhere was around, too!

The last panel is slightly reworked from the original story in Tales #2, the rest is all-new!

Merv’s quest becomes an odyssey. The best professional cannot deliver appropriate results without sufficient information! Alone in a world he never made, stuck with a task he seemingly can’t fulfill… our Demon of Vengeance is in a pickle!

Merv and Jesse continue to reminisce, sharing some of their feelings, doubts, … And we see the momentous moment that Dr Brain gave Merv his fateful mission!

There He Is, for the first time Again!, our favorite Griffin. Finally we get to show his terrifying first appearance, years later!

 

Rae Oberheim, Crimefighting Intern

Rae Oberheim, whom we’ve seen in action a few times in the past, has a colorful heritage and an interesting occupation!

Rae (originally Raven) is the daughter of the alternate-reality superheroine Nattie, and the Demigod Monroe Coyote of the Misfits of Mischief (both by different creators). She first appeared during a cosmic crisis in the timeless, nameless No-Wherse with the Misfits of Mischief, until their journey ended back in our reality. The Misfits of course are created by Johann-Octavius Gans and their Home is on Comicfury. Nattie was created by James Damaged.

Rae is trying to be a superhero but is still young and needs to learn the ropes. In battle, she can call upon ancient animal powers to become sort of a chimera. She is also trying to represent the intersex and trans community, as well as the brown community, in the superhero world as good as she can. She’s got pointy ears, yellow eyes (pupils) and one light streak in her dark hair.

Recently, she started an informal Crimefighting internship at Police Commissioner Ben Dryden’s office. Let’s wish her luck!

Doubt of the Dreadful P02: Letting It All Hang Out

We spend our time often following the adventures of Captain Evening and The Odds, but today we’re staying home with Jesse and Merv, and have already learned an interesting tidbit! We might hear some more, listening in on their breakfast conversation.
We’ve seen notorious Alicia in older comics, when she was still just a fellow student and best frenemy of Jesse. She has risen through the ranks significantly over the years, while pushing out Jesse and taking over her spot in Dr Brain’s gang of villains.

 

Doubt of the Dreadful P01: Morning Routine

Once again, welcome to our latest tale!

You all know Captain Evening, fearless leader of our favorite super-team, The fabulous Odds and owner of a penthouse in Manhattan, (his real superpower), where he hosts a number of superheroes: It is the Fortress of Evening!

Jesse Brain is his young girlfriend, a former super-villainess called Wicked Witch, and incidentally the daughter of his arch nemesis, Dr Brain.

Marcus the Vampire is the owner of a seedy vampire club, and is a character by James Damaged.

Sorry to keep you hanging, dear readers of The Ballad of Anywhere, (and dear Shifters), but we felt we needed to switch things up, just like we’ve always done!

The Ballad of Anywhere is our biggest story in years, and we know how fickle you modern earthlings are. So we present you a different story now, harkening back to earlier times in the BEHOLDERverse, back to a simpler time.

We hope this little yarn will not only entertain you, but also fill some gaps in the original Tale (to Behold) Book2, which you can read here. We also will finally learn some background of our very popular Merv the Griffin and explain some of his… habits! Expulsior!
