1980s Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau)

Created by Roger Stern and John Romita Jr, she could take on any form of energy and was thus enormously powerful. She was also the first female African -American Avenger.

Monica Rambeau was a big part of the 80s Avengers and even lead the team later on. After many changes, she now goes by the name of Spectrum and appears in the series Mighty Avengers.

Cavewoman

Tribute to Meriem Cooper aka Cavewoman, created by Budd Root and drawn over time by Devon Massey, Rob Durham and others.

I like the science fiction aspect of her origin, and that she has super-human abilities. When jungle adventurers are mixed with the super-hero genre, I find it the most interesting. (See also Terra Obscura / Princess Pantha)

The Defenders

The Defenders will always have a 70s / early 80s vibe, and included many lesser known characters. The Hulk never really fit into the Avengers, but in this strange “non-team” he made sense. Also pictured: Valkyrie in a costume that she wore only a short time, Hellcat, and of course Dr Strange.
