Journey Into Misery 5 Begins Tomorrow!

Yes true believer, the next chapter in the BEHOLDER saga begins tomorrow! We return to our lovely protagonists Kelly and Jenkins in what could be their last outing! Don't dare missing it!

And if you cannot wait, yo can already order the entire story as a hand-crafted mini-comic with block printed cover from BirdCageBottom Books. Along with all 9 other comics from Season 1 of THE BEHOLDER!

Nightcrawler from the X-Men

Tribute-time!
Here's a guy I met reading one of my very first Marvel comics as a kid: Nightcrawler. I remember being intrigued by his mysterious look. Created by Dave Cochrum with Len Wein, he's been dead in the X-Men series for a while, but is being brought back again in the new series Amazing X-Men. Thankfully, he's wearing his old-school groovy costume, too!

Spotlight on: Centennia

Centennia is the most powerful hero character in the BEHOLDER universe so far, she flies and has super-strength, and   though she doesn't look it, she is over 100 years old (hence the name).

In the brand-new Tales To Behold #4, she battles a giant mechanoid, and joins the team for its climatic battle against their united enemies. Also, there is a short comic about her childhood, when her amazing powers first appeared. The full story will be serialized here on THE BEHOLDER in spring, but if you can't wait till then, head over to BirdCageBottom Books and order the finely hand-crafted print-version today!

In the meantime, here is an awesome pin-up by comic-artist Eric A Nelson, of FemForce fame, who did a great job of a slightly scuffed Centennia in battle with an unknown foe.

Girl and Robot

Fan-art for the webcomic very nicely drawn webcomic Iothera. (Not for kids).

Harley Quinn

Bruce Timm's Batman series is still amazing after all these years, one of the great things that came out of it was Joker's second-in-command Harley Quinn. For the relaunch of DC comics, they re-designed her into a more… goth-y look. And now the great Amanda Conner is going to re-design her again, for her upcoming solo-series. But in the meantime, here's the current version from DC Comics.

The Odds in color

The adventures of The Odds in the pages of TALES TO BEHOLD have been mostly happening in black and white. So what would the characters actually look like in color? I tried to have a crack at it, hope you'll like them!

Webcomix United

The wild and wacky world of webcomics: These are characters from some of the far out comics that can be found online. They are from the following webcomics (some are NSFW obviously):

On the very top: Emea and Wakatonka from Spun-Off
From left to right:
Cassandra from Iothera
Alya from Alya The Last Child of Light
Paula and Ann from F.U. Point M.O.D.I.C.
Jenny Everywhere from my very own Tales To Behold, and many others
Lucidus from Alya The Last Child of Light
Abúi from Abúi's Travels
Kaza and Gwenna from Kaza's Mate Gwenna

All characters belong to their respective creators of course.
Except Jenny Everywhere, she belongs to everybody!

Jenny Everywhere and Jenny Anywhere by TheD-Wrek

After drawing other people's characters for a while, I decided to turn things around: I asked Deviant Artist TheD-Wrek, creator of the webcomic TwentyFour Seven to draw Jenny Everywhere and Jenny Anywhere for me. It's super-cool to see this!

So it's someone else's version of my version of someone else's characters. The mind boggles!

Anyway, it's super-cool to see this and I want to thank TheD-Wrek one more time for doing this great pic.

Avengers of the 80s

Now THAT’s what I call Avengers! A humble homage to some childhood heroes.
One of the first Marvel series that I read was the Avengers run by Roger Stern, John Buscema and Tom Palmer, and this was the line-up. The Wasp was a smart and dynamic chairwoman, with Captain America sometimes advising her. The powerhouses were Hercules and The Submariner, plus the Black Knight as resident scientist, and Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau) who would go on to lead the team next.
The most famous arcs from that team were “Under Siege" and "Assault on Olympus”, which were great adventure stories. Buscema’s dynamic figures and compositions were wonderful, and the excellent inking / finishing by Tom Palmer always left everything looking like it was shiny and vibrating with energy.
It’s funny that this line-up is somewhat unusual once you know more about the publishing history of the Avengers. But for me, those guys will always be like a bunch of old friends. Those were the days!

Jenny Everywhere and Friends

Work in progress: A pic of Jenny Everywhere plus two extensions of her universe that Carter-Ethan Rankin came up with: Her boyfriend Jimmy Wherever, and an imperfect variation of her, Jenny Anywhere. Planning to color these soon…

Captain Marvel's favorite pizza

In her new comic series, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel is taking off to the stars for new, exciting adventures and even more zapping, punching and general buttkicking.
Here she’s enjoying one last slice from her favorite pizza joint while looking back on earth getting smaller in the distance. Let the adventure begin!

Public Domain Superheroes: Anna Atom

There are plenty of existing comic-characters available for everybody to use– some are older properties that have somewhat fallen into public domain, others are brand-new and have been solely created for the purpose to being used by others.

For any comic-creator, it's always the most exciting when to come up with their own characters. But every once in a while, it's fun to build on stuff by others. That is the reason why THE BEHOLDER has incorporated Jenny Everywhere into his universe.

Here is another internet creation: Anna Atom, a super-heroine from "Earth K". You can read more about here on the Public Domain Superheroes Wiki, or visit the forum here.

Earth-K, Anna Atom, and Max Atom were created by Michael P. and are available for use by anyone, with only one condition: This paragraph must be included in any publication involving Earth-K, Anna Atom, and Max Atom in order that others may use these properties as they wish. All rights reversed.

THE BEHOLDER at New York Comic Con 2013

Last year The Beholder had a truly great time at New York ComicCon Artist Alley, so he'll be back again this year! It's all going down next week, Thursday through Sunday, Oct 10-13th.

This time there will be some reinforcement. Besides my human pawn Paul Hoppe, Dr Brain will be present, as a large print, so you can easily find our table. But just in case: We will be at table BB5 of Artist Alley.

Besides all the currenct BEHOLDER mini-comics (Journey Into Misery 1-5, Tales To Behold 1-3), there will also be books for children and once again some delectable prints of cityscapes and ruins.

Something for everyone!
And besides his own table, Paul will do a signing at the Random House Booth on the Main Floor, Sunday 2-3pm, with the graphic novel PEANUT.

New York Comic Con is being held at the Javits Center (655 West 34th Street) in Midtown Manhattan,  from Oct 10-13th. This year NYCC Artist Alley will be returning to the North Pavilion of the Javits Center.
